How this is insured
Heirlooms are the hardest things to insure honestly, because market value and family value are different numbers and only one of them is payable. A christening gown, service medals or a handwritten letter may schedule for very little and be genuinely irreplaceable. We will not pretend a policy fixes that. What storage can do is remove the failure modes that destroy these objects — humidity, light, heat and handling — since no check replaces them anyway.

What happens to it in an estate
Heirlooms are usually distributed by a personal property memorandum rather than the will itself, and Florida allows a separate written list for tangible personal property. That list is only as good as everyone's ability to find both it and the objects. Keeping the memorandum with the items, and telling the family it exists, prevents the outcome these things most often meet: a house cleared in a weekend by people who did not know what they were holding.
Which box size fits
Mixed heirloom collections — silver, photographs, documents, small objects — usually settle into a 5×15×24 or 10×10×24.
Common questions
- What happens to the box when I die?
- With a beneficiary on file or a trust rental, named parties get access without probate. This is worth setting up on day one.
- Can I store photographs and film?
- Yes. The controlled climate is well suited to it.
- I am only in Florida part of the year.
